Optimum joint multiuser decoding/detection in coded CDMA systems is computationally prohibitive. However, iterative methods were shown to be computationally manageable while providing near optimum performance. With these advances, one can not help asking the question:"what is the the optimum performance possible in a coded CDMA multiuser system?" In the past, performance analysis in terms of asymptotic efficiency was mentioned in [3]. While such analysis is useful at very high signal to noise ratio (SNR), it may not be accurate enough in lower ranges of SNR. We first derive a precise formula for the probability of an error event which is represented by an error matrix. Then, an approximation of the bit error rate (BER) performance is given.
