A spatial stability analysis of an elliptical jet has been carried out. Chebyshev and Fourier pseudo-spectral collocation methods were used in the discretizations of the governing equations for the disturbance eigenfunctions with were written in a generalized (non-orthogonal) cylindrical coordinate system. The resulting algebraic eigenvalue problem was solved using the inverse power method. The influence of different azimuthal distributions of the momentum thickness, swirl, and heat release on the stability properties of the elliptical jet were also investigated.
