Up to now, traditional drive systems have been used in packagingmachine engineering. Hereby the operating process is controlledmechanically via cam disks fitting on a line shaft, making sure that allprocesses maintain their synchronism even in case of breakdown. As aconsequence, product conversions need considerable setup time. The useof modular concepts in construction and in drive engineering allows asimple and fast and therefore low-cost product changeover. The use ofsingle drive systems requires the substitution of the mechanicallycoupled functions by data-processing links. This paper presents a newfeeding conveyer of a cartoning machine using two interconnectedservomotor drives as well as a collision avoiding strategy. Thementioned strategy has been worked out and is currently being tested ona test bench
