This paper describes a prototype fuzzy function generator systemthat improves the performance of a state feedback controller for atemperature process. The system modifies the reference value (set-point)which modifies the response of the system when external disturbancesexist, and also compensates the nonlinear effects of the process. Thefuzzy function generator receives the temperature error and the changein temperature as inputs and produces a change in the reference orset-point value for the stare feedback controller. Experiments show thatthe performance of a system with no function generator can besignificantly improved with the addition of the fuzzy function generatorin the loop. The settling time of the state feedback controller with thefuzzy set-point generator decreases compared with the state feedbackcontroller. The paper proposes a hybrid system (fuzzy and stalefeedback), where the relative performance of the state feedbackcontroller is improved with the fuzzy function generator supervising thecontrol loop
