JANUS: a third generation system for automatic record keepingduring open heart surgery

An integrated heart surgery system is under development. Thesystem is the successor of two previous home-build generations ofautomatic charting systems for the anaesthetist and the perfusionistduring heart surgery. The system can be used to collect, present andarchive all important physiological parameters, the medical events, andthe medical and administrative data. The system is connected to themonitoring system, our custom-build heart-lung system and the servoventilators. It includes access to the hospital information system, andthe departmental information systems of the Thoraxcenter. The firstpreliminary version of this system will be introduced into our operationrooms in the summer of 1996
