The aim of the study is to find the best geometry for a squirrelcage induction motor satisfying given requirements. The motor ismodelled by the two-dimensional finite element method with a simulationof the rotating rotor. A genetic algorithm is used in optimisation. Twoexamples are presented in the paper. In the first example, the losses ofan inverter fed motor are minimised under given constraints. In thesecond example, the task is to find the structure for the motor having ahigh locked rotor torque and low locked rotor current
