On Z₄- and Z₉-linear liftsof the Golay codes

In this paper we investigate Z₄-linear andZ₉-linear lifts of the extended binary and ternaryGolay codes. We introduce weight functions on Z₄ andZ₉ which reflect previously unknown error-correctingand packing capabilities of these codes. We compare their propertieswith those of the Hamming, Lee and homogeneous weights and givealgebraic decoding schemes using a general decoder
