An experimental on-board processing satellite system providing ISDNservices

The applications of satellites with onboard switching aredescribed, with particular emphasis on narrowband and broadband ISDNinterconnections through very small earth stations. The objectives andfeatures of an experimental satellite with onboard processing arehighlighted. The onboard switch is shown to be limited to a T-stage andis commanded from the master control station, where all the majorfunctions of a digital exchange are placed.
