Wavelength-tunable semiconductor lasers for optical fibercommunications

The status of wavelength-tunable semiconductor lasers, crucialoptical devices for multichannel coherent optical communications, isreviewed. The wavelength tuning characteristics of multielectrodedistributed feedback lasers, multielectrode distributed Bragg reflectorlasers, and tunable twin-guide lasers are described. Wavelength tuningby carrier injection and multiwavelength packet switching are discussed
