Technology development strategy for wireless media terminals: aplatform approach

摘要

This paper concentrates on the problem of how to developmultimedia enabling technology for future wireless terminals under theprevailing trends and continuously increasing challenges faced by thetelecommunications industry. The main emphasis is laid on the strategyof continuous technology development in the context of wirelessmultimedia. A novel strategy for the technology development of wirelessterminals is presented. The definition of technology strategy is closelyrelated to technology management and the organisation responsible forthe technology development. Therefore, organisational and technologymanagement-related aspects are also discussed in more detail in thepaper. The platform approach has been selected as the basis for thecontinuous development of multimedia-capable technology for wirelessterminals. The platform development consists of concept- andengine-related technology development which are seen the main processesin creating and making use of technical knowledge, developing andimplementing core building blocks for future wireless terminals
