This paper aims to define the Digital Twin in a general context, explore the current role of the Digital Twin within shipbuilding,and demonstrate the benefits of and path towards an integrated, cross-enterprise Digital Twin. Shipbuilding, asan industry with unique challenges and structures, requires a shipbuilding specific approach to technology implementation,integration, and utilization. This factor has been considered within this paper and is one of the main drivers behind thedevelopments SSI has made to further the integration of platforms and improve the information available within a shipbuilder.
