Westinghouse is developing three unique accidenttolerant fuel (ATF) products; ADOPTTM pellets withchromium coated zirconium cladding, uranium silicide(U3Si2) pellets with chromium coated zirconium claddingand uranium silicide pellets with silicon carbide cladding. These ATF products are part of the WestinghouseEnCore® fuel portfolio. The primary purpose of ATF is toimprove the cladding material to reduce corrosion andhydrogen release in a severe accident. In developingATF, it is also important to evaluate the impact of the newcladding surface on the thermal hydraulic performanceparameters. Testing of the cladding has begun toinvestigate the impact of the cladding surface on heattransfer, Critical Heat Flux (CHF), and adherence ofcrud deposits. This paper summarizes the test results thusfar and makes recommendations for future optimization.
