Offshore bridges play an important role under multi-hazardcircumstances. Hence, it is necessary to consider the soil and structureinteraction when we design a bridge subjected to dynamic loading. In thisstudy, the ABAQUS finite element program is used to analyze theperformance of bridge pier under soil and structure interaction. The finiteelement model of soil adapted the soil spring built upon the empiricalequation proposed by API. To verify the feasibility of the soil springmodel, the results of the nature frequency between the sandbox test andABAOUS analysis are compared. It has been demonstrated thatABAQUS can solve the natural frequencies and vibration modes ofbridge piers reliably. In addition, the displacement responses underearthquake between the sandbox test and soil spring model are comparedand good agreement is obtained. Finally, a realistic highway bridge inTaiwan subjected to earthquake is analyzed and important conclusionsare given.
