Jack-up barges are widely used to carry out construction projects in theareas of western Taiwan nearshore harbor terminals or offshore windenergy. The results show that the normalized punch-through bearingcapacity affected by the jack-up barge foundation width significantly insand-cohesive layered soils, and the bearing capacity evaluationrecommendations suggested by SNAME are not conservative for smallsize barge footings. Furthermore, improper simplification of shallow thinhard soil strata or poor interpreted soil strength parameters can lead tomisjudge the possibility of punch-through failure.
