Multiple agencies in Southern California are retrofitting and upgrading their levees to catch up withever-advancing urbanization affecting the requirements for existing channels and levees in thisseismically active zone. Pressed-in sheet piles have been specified on some of these projects to minimizenoise and vibration problems associated with sheet pile installation. This paper will study three SouthernCalifornia levee and sewer pipeline retrofit projects that utilized pressed-in sheet piles in hard soilconditions with N-values higher than 50.
