MobiHealth: Mobile Agent-Based System for Mobile Telemedicine

Medication errors and adverse reactions between medications are a leading cause of death and injury in the United States, killing thousands of people and injuring over a million every year. This has motivated research to develop a mobile telemedicine system that will detect adverse reactions between medications given to a patient as well as other medication errors such as prescribing wrong dose of medication for a patient. Such a system will assist physicians in prescribing medications and developing treatment plans for patients. Our research has focused on developing MobiHealth, a mobile telemedicine system that assists physicians to detect and prevent errors in prescribing medications. MobiHealth also facilitates communications between physicians, patients, pharmacists, and nurses. We have used mobile agents and multi-agent development approach to develop MobiHealth. We have built a demonstration prototype of MobiHealth using Java-based mobile agent technologies such as JADE-LEAP. This paper presents our latest research results and plans for enhancement.
