Abstract: In order to separate buried land mines from clutter amulti- channel stepped-frequency ground penetratingradar has been developed. The system operates over thefrequency band 800 MHz to 2.0 GHz. The radarincorporates advanced digital signal processing andradio frequency integrated circuit components. It usesan all-digital modulator coupled with a coherentdigital quadrature receiver for making precisemagnitude and phase measurements. The control interfaceto the radar consists of an Ethernet TCP/IP link. Aparallel bank of transmit-receive antennas is used toachieve cross track sampling. System motion is used toachieve along track data sampling. Synthetic aperturenear field beamforming techniques are used to imageburied objects. The system is designed to detectshallowly buried metallic and non- metallic mines. Asystem overview is presented and result from datacollection exercises are included. Images and analysisof data from a mine lane is presented. !0
