The possibility of applying the multicarrier code divisionmultiple access (MC-CDMA) technique in the 3rd generation mobilecellular communication system is analyzed. The key features of such asystem are described and the basic problems of transmission andreception of the MC-CDMA signals are discussed. The MC-CDMA system canbe regarded as the conventional DS-CDMA system in which nonbinary, complex PN sequences have been applied. All the features and the wellknown advantages of DS-CDMA allow one to consider this technique as apotential solution for users multiplexing and modulation in the futureUniversal Mobile Telecommunication System
