The DRI Driving Simulator 1997, description and applications to thestudy of intelligent transportation systems

The Dynamic Research, Inc. (DRI) Driving Simulator and recentapplications to the study of ITS concepts and devices are described.This research grade simulator features a computer generated graphicsroadway scene with a 180 degree forward field of view, a 6 degree offreedom motion cueing platform, instrumented cabs, control loaders,sophisticated vehicle dynamics models, and data acquisition. Theadvantages and possible limitations of using a driving simulator for thestudy of ITS are discussed. Recent applications of this simulator to thestudy of ITS topics including a navigation system, a driver assistancesystem, and adaptive cruise control are described
