The theory of sequential detection has been applied in the past tothe acquisition of the direct sequence spread spectrum signals. It isshown to achieve a two to ten fold acquisition time improvement over theconventional fixed dwell time approach and is robust in the case of verylow signal-to-noise ratio. The published results employing this approachapplied to the case that the spread spectrum signal does not have datamodulation. Moreover, the effects of PN code correlation sidelobe arenot considered. The approach described in the present paper incorporatesthe effects of PN code correlation sidelobe and data modulation. Thisallows the parameters such as bias and thresholds as a function of falsealarm probability and missed defection probability to be accuratelydetermined to achieve optimal acquisition performance. The acquisitionperformance parameters are derived in the paper. The theoretical resultsare shown to be in excellent agreement with the simulation results
