Analysis of digital matched filtering schemes for digital receiverapplications using simulation methods

The next generation of digital receivers for the NASA Deep SpaceNetwork is composed of in-phase and quadrature-phase channels. Theauthors have modeled and simulated a quadrature-phase baseband channelthat includes a low-pass filter and a digital matched filter. Thesimulation is used to study the performance of the three schemes ofdigital matched filtering that use digital weighted integrate-and-dumpfilters. Using three methods for calculating the near-optimum matchedfilter weight coefficients, the simulation results are analyzed for theNRZ and Manchester data formats. The performances of the digital matchedfilters are studied in the presence of a timing error between thedemodulated symbols and the integrate-and-dump filters
