The combination of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) technique and a coding scheme is seen as a promising broadcastingsystem to cope with the frequency-selective and time-variant channel. The first application of this technique using a convolutional codingscheme has been implemented within the framework of the Eureka DAB(digital audio broadcasting) project. It is shown how to double theexisting spectrum efficiency of the system with the association oftrellis-coded modulation and an orthogonal frequency-divisionmultiplexing technique with the aim of offering the transmissioncapacity in a TV channel necessary for a high-quality video signal
