A brief overview of asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL)technology is provided, describing important technology considerations,including noise impairments, spectral compatibility, and data-over-voicedesign challenges. Potential service applications utilizing the uniqueadvantages of the ADSL are discussed, including advanced videotext,compressed video, and education applications. Network architecture andinterface issues are addressed. Physical configurations at the customerpremises and associated interfaces are discussed, along with ahigh-level view of possible network switching and control architectures
