Solidly modeled views of the 21st century from a small, ruraluniversity

It is noted that the mechanical arts/mechanicaldrawing/engineering graphics curriculum has undergone many changes sincethe beginnings of the American Society for Engineering Education in1893. It is suggested that the changes which have occurred at theauthor's small, rural university (Mississippi State University) mayperhaps reflect the changes at other engineering institutions. Theimpact of computing and the personal computer on the engineeringgraphics curriculum has been profound. The changes in the curriculum ofgraphic communication are recounted. A view for the future is given withemphasis on educating engineers for the world market, the sources ofthese new engineering students, and the sources of funds for technologydevelopment. In addition, a description of a service curriculum forengineering is presented, and strategies for recruiting and retainingengineering students for the workforce of the 21st century are discussed
