The need for department policies regarding student computer usagein engineering and technology

A case is made for developing departmental policies for studentliteracy and usage of computers. It is noted that in today's environmentthe appropriate way to fulfil desired comprehensive computer educationalobjectives spans a major portion of the curriculum in both engineeringand technology. In addition, such policies avoid excessive taskrepetition in courses, while assuring the maintenance of overall programobjectives. A summary of major computer-education objectives isprovided. The impact on both faculty and facilities is considered
