It is pointed out that there are some changes in the engineeringprofession that indicate a need to reexamine both the approach tocontinuing education and the urgency with which it is regarded. One ofthese changes is no surprise-the pace or rate of change is accelerating. The other is less obvious-engineering education is becoming morefundamental, and the teaching of application and even advancedengineering science is being reduced. It is noted that both of thesechanges have implications for undergraduate engineering education.Universities must find a way to participate in the post-degree educationenterprise. They must find ways to teach students the techniques ofcontinuing education so that they are prepared for the life-long task ofknowledge-base renewal
