The effects of participative communications on programeffectiveness

The impact of improved communications resulting from ateam-building intervention on organizational effectiveness as perceivedby the participants was investigated. The hypothesis was that improvedcommunications among the interdependent project participants result inimproved program effectiveness via enhanced group decision making. Twoprograms were selected for the study, a control group and anexperimental group. Two organizational effectiveness survey instrumentswere selected, one for research, development, and engineering personneland one for marketing/user personnel. An intervention based uponHackman's Action Research Model ran for six months. Surveys wereadministered to participants in both programs before and afterintervention. The general results show that significant improvements inperceived organizational effectiveness are possible when a team approachamong program constituents is used. Hence, trust that the organizationis sincere and will act on program participants' input seems to be anantecedent for improved perceived organizational effectiveness
