Progress on Internet-based educational material development forelectronic products and systems cost analysis

The objective of this project is to build Internet-basededucational materials that address the economic impact of electronicpackaging technology, specifically the process of predicting themanufacturing and life cycle cost of electronic systems during theirdesign and development process. This paper reports progress on: (1) thedevelopment and dissemination of Web-based instructional materials foruse in cost analysis courses and as supplemental materials for a broadcross-section of other courses in the electronics and electronicpackaging areas; and (2) the expansion of the elements within the coursethat address life cycle costs, particularly the concepts of life cycleassessment and design for environment. Six Internet-based modules arebeing developed. The modules developed include a mixture of lecturematerials (in textual and video format), case studies, on-linecomputational tools, bibliographies, links, and discussion/homeworkproblems. The modules are Internet-based and could be hosted by acentral organization such as the IEEE
