Under the NIST ATP Precision Optoelectronics Assembly Consortiumprogram, Adept Technology has developed a low cost assembly platform forautomated assembly of optoelectronic components. Using the low-costplatform outfitted with machine vision and a microstage, we conventionaldemonstrate robotic “pick and place/alignment” of afiber-designed pigtail to an optoelectronic device mounted inside aKovarTM transceiver package housing. We also presentexperimental results quantifying the magnitude and direction offiber-optic pigtail alignment shift during single-mode optical fibersolder bonding. With a fiber cantilever distance of 0.060", alignmentshift of -4 μm in the vertical direction and +/-2 μm in thelateral direction is observed
