Recent industry measurements indicate that the protection ofavionics systems in commercial aircraft is provided not by the fuselagebut rather by the transmission lines formed between the wires and thealuminum skin. The authors investigate the effects on induced voltage atconditions of unmatched impedances, which are typical of aircraftcontrol systems. A computer program was written to display the variationof induced voltage across the load resistor. This program made itpossible to vary the source and load impedances while scanning theresponse across a broad frequency range. Design considerations followingfrom the calculations are presented. It is concluded that fine structureabove resonance calls into question techniques and standards used inradiated susceptibility testing
