The performance of a new transformer diagnosis method is testedexperimentally. The method is called model-based diagnosis because thediagnosis is based on an identified model of the component, i.e., thetransfer function. A single test series is carried out in order toevaluate the sensitivity of the method in transformer diagnosis. Thebasic purpose of this sensitivity test series is to determine how closethe identified transformer model is connected to the physical conditionof the modeled transformer. Based on the results of the sensitivity testseries it is concluded that the detection of failures and agingphenomena in transformers by transfer functions is dependent ondetectable changes in relatively few characteristic transformerparameters, i.e., basically lumped winding capacitances, total lossesand core reluctance
