Aero-structural Analysis of Corrugated Morphing wing with Spanwise Camber Change

Shape morphing technologies are drawing much attention with their potential to improve the aerodynamic properties or environmental adaptability of aircrafts. Load control on wings is one of the important techniques to reduce drags or improve safety. This research suggests new designs of corrugated morphing wings to obtain preferred lift distributions considering necessary actuation energies. A 3D aero-structural analysis tool with an actuation system is developed combining a nonlinear finite element method with a vortex lattice method. Corrugation angles are newly introduced to reduce necessary actuation forces. Aero-structural analyses are performed at the analysis points which are uniformly distributed in the design space. Response surfaces are created with the results by radial basis function interpolation method and the optimal setting of the parameters is calculated using the gradient based methods.
