The proposed control method presents a new technique to improve the reliability and controllability for driving permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) systems. This paper presents a new sensorless control method for permanent magnet synchronous motors based on a reduced order observer. In this paper, first the PMSM drive system is modeled. Then the proposed reduced order observer is introduced, and its practical implementation is discussed. Finally, preliminary hardware-in-the-loop results are provided to validate the operation of the proposed method.
