This paper presents the control of a single phase EV charging station (EVCS) powered by a wind energy generation system (WEGS) and a photovoltaic (PV) array that are installed in houses for EV charging and household supply. The EVCS has a voltage source converter (VSC), and it is controlled for simultaneous charging and household supply in both grid connected mode (GCM) and islanded mode (IM). However, the charging station (CS) allows the vehicle to home operation for feeding the household load during grid connected mode, solar PV generation and WEGS power not being available. Moreover, the vehicle to grid operation is also possible in GCM. In GCM, the EVCS also enables bi-directional power trade with utility at a power factor of one. Other features of EVCS are the reactive power support to the grid, harmonics elimination and synchronization of grid voltage to the point of common coupling (PCC) voltage for seamless grid connection. The prototype of the EVCS is developed in the laboratory and steady-state and dynamic conditions results have been presented to demonstrate its functioning and control.
