Review of Research on Seismic Retrofit Technology of RC Bridge Pier

Aiming at the typical failure modes of RC piers in recent destructive earthquakes, the advantages and disadvantages of conventional RC piers for seismic retrofit technology are summarized, and the research progress of applying new materials to strengthen piers is introduced. Research shows that the use of steel wire rope, BFRP, and shape memory alloy retrofit can effectively improve the seismic performance of the pier, but single technology retrofit has its limitations, and multiple technology composite retrofit can overcome the shortcomings of the single technology. The seismic retrofit technology of bridge piers mentioned in the article can provide a reference for the retrofit and repair of RC structures that have been damaged after earthquakes, fires, explosions and corrosion and aging.
