Power Flow Method Application on Aircraft Electrical Power Systems

The knowledge of voltages, currents and power Hows at all points of an aircraft electrical system, on its entire electrical load envelope, is fundamental for the sizing of its components, such as, buses, cables, and protective devices. Nowadays, it can be perceived greater dependence of aircraft functions on electrical system. Given the recent developments in the aeronautical industry, the behavior prediction of this system in a continuous and transient regime is fundamental to reach greater design robustness. Following this trend, the present work proposes the application of a power flow method capable of determining the state of an aircraft electrical system, in terms of voltages, in steady state condition. The method applied is known as reverse/direct sweep and it was tested on two different electrical systems. The first one represents an aircraft electrical architecture with direct current generation and distribution systems. The second one comprises a three-phase alternating current generation system, but with direct and alternate current distribution system. The method converged for both cases with consistent results.
