Due to growing demand for residential renewable energy in Odisha, consumers have to purchase battery energy storage systems (BESS) to counter unpredictable changes of solar power. The Dynamic programming (DP) algorithm has been used to determine the schedule of state of charge for the battery that minimizes cost to the consumer. This approach also incorporates the lifetime of the BESS. The state of health of battery has been introduced into the system as an ageing coefficient that forces conservative battery behaviour to preserve the lifetime of the battery with continued use. The system analysed in this study model residential household with photovoltaic (PV) generation, BESS and connected to the electric grid for purchase and sell power throughout the day.
