The present invention relates to a control system of a battery energy storage system (BESS) for a smart grid connected with a system through a power meter. The control system of a BESS for a smart grid comprises: a battery energy storage system charging or discharging electricity; a power converting device having one side connected with the power meter and the other side connected with the battery energy storage system and charging electric energy of the system in the battery energy storage system or discharging the electric energy stored in the battery energy storage system to supply the electric energy to the system or a load; and an energy management system controlling the power conversion device through DC/AC conversion, supplying an output of the battery energy storage system to the load by reducing the output of the power converting device to be less than power used in a load, and controlling the output of the battery energy storage system to flow to the system by boosting the output of the power converting device to be greater than the power used in the load. The control system of a BESS for a smart grid can increase economic feasibility of the BESS as a generation field and allows the BESS, which is a main component of the smart grid, to be operated as a profitable business.
