Power system stabilizer (PSS) is extensively used to enhance the angular stability by providing damping to the generator's oscillation. An electric torque is enforced in the rotor shaft in phase with the speed variation to provide this damping. In this paper, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique has been used for weighting function parameter selection and design of fixed structure robust power system stabilizer based upon Hmixed sensitivity approach with norm minimization technique. The efficacy of the fixed structure robust power system stabilizer (FSRPSS), designed through this Hnorm minimization approach has been investigated by simulation of a single machine associated with infinite bus scheme for various loading conditions employing MATLAB.
