This paper presents the hardware implementation of single-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) having selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulated (SHEPWM) switching strategy for producing lower distortion in its output voltage. The metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) is used for framing full-bridge VSI. The switching instants for generating SHEPWM signals of the inverter to eliminate lower order harmonics are determined by using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique in MATLAB 2014b software under various modulation indices. The embedded PIC 16F676 microcontroller is used to generate the aforementioned pulse width modulation signals from the computed switching angles. The isolation and driving circuits of the inverter are also framed on the same printed circuit board (PCB). This embedded system can be used either in single-phase uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system in home or for integrating of solar energy conversion system at home or single phase vehicle to grid (V2G) applications or in single phase micro-grid system etc.
