An Evaluation of the Potential of Local Electric Power Packages on Aircraft Fleet Level

The reduction of polluting emissions and thus the reduction of fuel consumption is one of the key challenges for aviation industry. Efficiency improvements have been achieved in various disciplines, such as propulsion, in the past. However, this publication focuses on the optimization of aircraft's electrical system by applying a concept of segmentation and decoupling. By decoupling individual consumers from the main electrical system and supplying them by Local Electric Power Packages, aircraft's wiring mass can be reduced. By taking additional weight for the therefore required Local Electric Power Packages into account, potential fuel reduction effects will be evaluated on aircraft and aircraft fleet level.
