One Narrowband Cross-Correlator Detector for Passive Sonar

The broadband cross-correlator detector can effectively improve the bearing resolution of multi-targets. But the broadband cross-correlator detector can not obviously provide underwater targets with abundant line spectrum because the frequency spectrum was normalized by the power of every frequency.In this paper, a narrowband cross-correlator detector is proposed by which the frequency lines were phase binning processed. After the frequency lines were automaticly detected in all preformed beams, they were placed in appropriate beams. The appropriate beam was selected by phase comparison for frequency line using the phase difference between the left and right beam outputs of the split array. The theoretical analysis and simulation result show that this method could get a better detection performance via the line spectrum component for passive sonar, meanwhile the bearing resolution can be obviously improved. The processing result of the sea-trial data shows the proposed method is effective.
