The Geographic Information System (GIS) integrated analytical model for fault diagnosis of distribution networks is proposed. Through this model, the fault components can be determined by combining the alarm information of the protection devices and switches with GIS information of distribution networks. By virtue of the analytical model, the difference between the acquired information and the desired state information can be minimized, thus transforming the fault diagnosis problem into a mathematical problem of identifying the optimal solution of an objective function. Also, in this model, maloperation and miss trips that may occur in protection and switches, and false and missing alarm signals are taken into consideration, developing a new analytical model for fault diagnosis. This model considers the abnormality of the protection and switches components and the uncertainty of the alarm signals, and boasts a high level of fault-tolerant ability. Results of a feasibility verification by examples indicate that the model can achieve fault diagnosis of distribution networks with a high level of accuracy.
