The scope of the paper is to present a detailed analysis of different submodule topologies, which can address DC faults, using detailed equivalent models. These models allow a thorough look starting from the submodule level and moving higher to the converter level. Consequently, having such flexibility in analyzing the high voltage direct current modular multilevel converter also allows a good DC fault analysis.
