Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) is an emerging wireless communication technology that enables us to automatically sense the data information attached on the target object. Generally, an RFID system has two types of components: reader and tag. To improve the RFID system efficiency, multiple readers are required to be deployed in a single working area, which excites the reader-to-reader collision problem. This paper proposes a hierarchical Petri net model of the distributed RFID reader network, which illustrates the structure of the reader network as well as the operation flow of the reader. Theoretical and application analysis results demonstrate that the proposed hierarchical Petri net model is reasonable and effective for the distributed RFID reader network.
