Newly Developed Polyol with Low Mono-ol Content for Flexible Polyurethane Foams

In recent years, there is a strong demand for improvement of fuel efficiency and reduction of CO_2 emissions in the automotive industry. Weight reduction of flexible polyurethane foam for automotive seats is one of the effective methods to meet these requirements. But generally this causes decreasing of foam physical properties such as durability and vibration characteristics. Here we show our newly developed polyol which has extremely low amount of by-products (mono-ol) less than 0.01 meq/g and which also can afford to increase molecular weight compared to conventional polyol. This polyol suppresses deterioration in physical properties of polyurethane foam even if its density is lowered. In this paper, we describe the advantages of this polyol, especially the superiority of increasing molecular weight.
