Monitoring measures for underground rehabilitation of Line 4 Bucharest, Romania

Bucharest Metro Line 4 has 4.7 km in length and it is an extension of Line 1, from Nicolae Grigorescu Station to Linia de Centura Station. This line includes two other stations (1 Decembrie 1918 and Policolor). The design for implementing Line 4 started in 1988 that including site investigations, hydro-geological studies and urban constraints (public utilities, buildings) surveys. The construction works began in 1989, as well as the monitoring program, which included surface marks, settlement pins in buildings, tunnel convergence pins and piezometers. The construction works for Line 4 were stopped in 1996, leading to flooding of tunnels and stations. Now, for the completion of works and the rehabilitation of Line 4 structures it is necessary to evaluate the geotechnical and tunnelling conditions, to safeguard the existing infrastructure.
