A Preliminary Study of Sounds Emitted by Honey Bees in a Beehive

Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) are well known inseets that have positive effects on the human being life. They are so important that the honey bee colonies decline of the last years has produced an increasing interest for their safeguard. In this context, the proposed work aims at studying and developing an innovative system capable of monitoring the beehives condition exploiting the sound emitted by the beehives in combination with measurable parameters such as temperature, humidity, CO2, hive weight and weather conditions. In this paper, preliminary results will be reported, describing the developed platform and the first results obtained in a real scenario.
