摘要

Set reduction using a progressive full-factorial methodology has been implemented as a tool to evaluate suitable designs of modular multilevel converters for MVDC shipboard power systems. One of the pertinent design metrics for selecting MVDC compatible power converters is power density expressed in MW/m~3. This paper utilizes a set reduction methodology and focuses on reliability (or risk of failure) which is another pertinent metric for evaluating different MMC designs. Well-established reliability theory stemming from block-diagram calculations are used as the mathematical basis.
