In an effort to increase safety and reduce costs, the maritime industry has moved to replace human crewmembers with sensors and automation. The fleet is increasingly divided between legacy assets with large crews, and minimally-manned new acquisitions with extensive sensor networks. Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) offers a sensor platform that can provide immediate benefits for vessels in any stage of automation. This paper presents power monitors installed to support maintenance and operations on two active US Coast Guard vessels. Individual equipment load schedules were disaggregated from the power stream using digital signal processing. The resulting event data is then used to assess machinery health, detect system faults, check operating procedures and automatically generate accurate machinery logs.
